Russia shows the country's first all-composite aircraft

The Siberian Chaplikin Aviation Institute presented a scientific achievement at the 2017 Moscow Air Show, the ТВС-2ДТС biplane. The shape of the ТВС-2ДТС biplane is very similar to the Ан-2 we were familiar with since childhood, but it is only similar in appearance. ТВС-2-ДТС is the first aircraft in Russia to fully use composite materials . The use of new materials increases the strength of the aircraft and completely eliminates support such as poles and diagonal columns. The fixed layout of the upper and lower wings can add more than 3,500 liters of fuel, which greatly improves the aircraft's range. The designers of the Siberian Aviation Research Institute also used digital simulation methods to optimize the aerodynamic shape of the aircraft when designing the aircraft.

Another innovation on the plane was the world's first propeller engine that was started with supercapacitors. According to the Information Office of the Russian Technical Industry Group, the research results were developed by Russia ТЭЭМП based on hybrid electric energy devices. The supercapacitor guarantees the power required to start the engine and can also be used as a battery to power the aircraft's onboard equipment. Thanks to the technology of ТЭЭМП, the total weight of supercapacitors is reduced by 60 kg and the life expectancy is increased by 1-2 times. Supercapacitors can be used in an environment of -50 ° C, while conventional capacitors can be used below -25 ° C.

In order to participate in the 2017 Moscow Air Show, the plane flew from Siberia to Zhukovsky without landing.
